My interest in the financial markets began in my youth – I was the weird kid reading the business section of the newspapers in high school. Today, I am the President of Sun Life Capital Management Canada. This incredible opportunity arose after I co-wrote a paper in 2004 on why Sun Life Financial should offer our internal investment capabilities to the institutional market. My paper collected dust for several years, but then the Sun Life board invited me to help build a full business case on this new organization. Following its approval, I become employee number one for SLC Management in 2013. Since launching the business, our sales have increased each and every year. We now have more than $300B AUM, 1,300 global clients in 26 countries and 500+ investment professionals. Building this company from the ground up has been the highlight of my career. I personally played a role in hiring many members of our team – in the early days and even now. The employees I work with are the main reason why I love my job and the company we have established together. SLC Management is the asset management pillar of Sun Life and shares the organization’s amazing culture, not just in Canada, but around the world. I joined the company in 1997 and have held progressive positions in both Canada and Asia including AVP, Investments Canada, VP, Investments, Asia, VP, Wealth Management, Asia and VP, Marketing and Strategy for Sun Life Hong Kong. As a leader who enjoys understanding all aspects of the business, I appreciated the opportunity to lead marketing and strategy during my time in Hong Kong. While I have always loved finance, broader roles in other diverse areas help me connect the dots that others might not see. This broad perspective also enables me to make an impact across all areas of SLC Management.
