Over 40 years experience of commercialising research results and intellectual property; and practical IP and innovation management - starting in 1977, while still a researcher working on computer modelling and simulation, spinning out a company to develop and market technical software for microcomputers. During the 1980's, I was responsible for software development, sourcing, acquiring, in-licensing and marketing with a major UK computer and network manufacturer; during a period of rapid development of new technologies in this sector. From 1989 to 2000 I worked at BTG plc, (an international early stage technology and IP investment and development organisation), responsible for the commercialisation of research and new technologies through licensing, spin-outs, equity investment, JV's, etc. In 2000, I founded Iambic Innovation Ltd, providing consultancy on exploitation of research and early stage technology, including IP policy, strategy and management, research exploitation strategy, innovation management, training, and operational support to Knowledge Transfer Offices in universities and research institutions. Clients include universities, research institutions, government agencies and companies worldwide.Since 1992, I have worked with the European Commission as an expert consultant, evaluator, rapporteur/vice chair, and project monitor - particularly related to ICT, IP Management, Innovation and ExploitationI am currently a senior advisor (IP and Innovation) for the EU IP Helpdesk, and a Central expert for the EC's Horizon IP-Scan service. I provide training and support for Horizon Europe proposal preparation, IP management and research exploitation for the EU IP Helpdesk, institutions and government agencies.I work with KIOS Centre of Excellence (University of Cyprus) as an EU, IP and Innovation expert. I am an active member on British(BSI),European (CEN) and International(ISO) Standards Committees on Innovation Management & IP Management.I am a member of ASTP's EU Committee (Europe's premier association of knowledge transfer professionals), and certified trainer for the LES (Licensing Executives Society). I have an degree in Engineering from Sussex University and a Doctorate from Exeter University. Professional qualifications include: Chartered Engineer, Chartered Mathematician, Chartered Information Technology Professional, Fellow of the British Computer Society, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and Applications, Member of the Licensing Executives Society, Fellow of the International Institute of Licensing Practitioners.
