Eugene Cilliers,The majority of my professional career has been in the financial services sector. In 1997 I started as a trainee in Venture Capital Equity Sales working on private client portfolios for a UK based Stockbroker. My real interest in Debt Counselling started in 2007 while setting up a call centre for a company called Sterling Green, based in Manchester in the UK. Even though the South African Debt Counselling industry was still in its infancy stages, our National Credit Act (which was promulgated in 2007) was regarded as a huge improvement on the Acts of other countries like the UK. I was excited about the potential for the South African market and specifically for the overindebted South African consumer. I completed the Debt Counselling course at the beginning of 2009 and after which I started Pay Plan SolutionsIn the early years of Pay Plan Solutions, I worked closely with ABSA Workplace Banking by presenting numerous talks on employee financial wellness. Some of my clients included the Spur Group, Freddy Hirsch, Shell and Nedbank. I have a vast interest in our industry related IT solutions. I serve as Vice Chairman on the National Executive Committee of our industry presentative body, Debt Counsellor's Association of South Africa. In my role as Debt Counsellor, I strive to bring awareness about the impact of debt in the workplace especially and not just in employee’s home life. Pay Plan Solutions has been recognised as one of the top 5 debt counsellors in our sector since 2016 and in 2019 was awarded the prize for top debt counsellor in the country.
