Eugene runs North Side ( www.northsideinc.com), a Natural Language Understanding (NLU) company. We leverage millions of syntactic and semantic rules mined from lexical resources for precise language processing and for reasoning on everyday life. We complement Machine Learning solutions by generating the 'everyday life context' for utterances and increasing precision. We’ve developed Bot Colony, the first game to make 3D-situated conversation the key game mechanic. Bot Colony pioneered text-to-animation technology: a user controls 3D characters' interactions with spaces, objects and other characters using simple English. Characters remember knowledge sources and the time and place of past perceptions and actions. Text-to-animation has applications to robotics, visualization of space/product interactions, film and videogame previz, simulation, mission planning, AR & VR, etc. It enables storytelling using 3D animation, directly from an English text. North Side is Eugene’s second entrepreneurial venture in Human-Computer Interface. Eugene founded Virtual Prototypes (acquired by CAE, now Presagis at www.presagis.com ) in 1985, where he invented VAPS – a new paradigm in interactive display design for aircraft, cars, ground stations, etc (design visually, generate code automatically – instead of coding graphics manually). VAPS has become the de facto aerospace standard for avionics display design and automated generation of flight-qualified source code. Eugene also initiated the development of flexible flight simulation and wargaming tools. On April 21, 1999, Eugene was inducted into the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum AW&ST Laureate Hall of Fame as the 1999 Electronics Laureate, for causing a paradigm shift in display development and simulation in aerospace. Virtual Prototypes went public on TSE in July 1999 and was later acquired by CAE.Eugene is interested in generating 3D and 2D visualizations from texts describing stories, processes, etc.
