M. Eugenio Vázquez was born in 1973. He graduated in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1996, and obtained his PhD under the supervision of Prof. José Luis Mascareñas working on synthetic DNA-binding peptides. In 2001 he received a “Human Frontier Science Program” long-term fellowship, and joined the group of Prof. Barbara Imperiali at MIT where he worked for three years on the design of caged compounds and the development of fluorescent probes. In 2004, he returned to the group of Prof. J. L. Mascareñas in Santiago as a “Ramón y Cajal” researcher with the aim of developing a bioorganic research program combining organic synthesis, fluorescence spectroscopy, supramolecular and peptide chemistry. M. E. Vázquez was habilitated in 2007, and received the Sigma-Aldrich Young Researchers Award of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry in 2008.Specialties: Peptide Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Fluorescent sensing.
