Marketing research, marketing strategy establishments.I have been working for marketing research companies, in which I could experience various kinds of data, like customized consumer researches, print & TV rating, consumer panel data, and so on. Print & TV ratings and consumer panel data needed rather complex mathematical models, and I'm trying to apply similar models to consumer research data. But our final aim is to help marketers understand their consumers and markets clearly, and have the optimal strategies. We call it research-driven marketing strategy consulting. A few examples of our consultancies :- A local Korean brand of anti-pimple facial lotion was growing very fast, but it soon became the second brand in the market as soon as J&J launched Clear & Clear. We analyzed the market and found that the first brand was targeting both teenagers and ladies in their early 20's, which were quite different market. We suggested to focus on the target market, and add another brand if necessary. - An American automobile company wanted to launch a new model into Korean market, which looked very powerful and strong. The ad agency was thinking positioning the model as an expression of success for showy people. But the analyses showed that showy people are interested in more prestigious brands, like Benz or BMW. Instead, we found that people who made personal successes wanted it for their own satisfaction, or reward for themselves. The model became second best selling imported car in Korea. - A leading anti-allergy drug, used for sneeze or nose drippings, was suffering plateau in growth. There were no other strong competitors. We found many Koreans look for cold-cures when actually needed anti-allergy drugs, because many were not interested much in allergy-caused symptoms.
