The model is currently supporting regional food balance sheet in ministry of agriculture within the 6 countries.•I generated data insights for land degradation assessment in 15 eastern and southern African countries through geospatial assessment of bioclimatic and biophysical variables: vegetation phenology; precipitation, soil, topography and population.•I developed training materials and trained over 1000 state and non-state actors in earth observation data analysis in 20 eastern and southern African countries.

•I led policy dialogue and stakeholder mobilization towards climate action strategies in 20 eastern and southern Africa countries. This resulted in a 70% increase in usage of geospatial tools in drought risk resilience in the region and a 30% improvement in the resilience of vulnerable communities dealing with post-drought losses.•I led analysis of largescale- global coverage- satellite data using Python, R and Google Earth Engine to generate data insights for policy decision makers in 10 eastern African countries on land degradation trends, wetlands inventory and forest status. This led to evidence-based land restoration intervention strategies.•As IGAD region Thematic Leader in Land Degradation, I led earth observation data policy harmonization in 10 countries. This included data standardization for metadata creation; data quality assessment and quality control. •I mobilized earth observation data providers, data curators, data engineers and data users in eastern Africa region to establish data sharing standards and functional national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI) in 10 countries.•I led deployment of geospatial open data protocols (adopted from Open Geospatial Consortium) at RCMRD leading to 80% migration from commercial data processing software/platform eg. ArcGIS while leveraging open platforms like QGIS.

• Led Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Targets Review and Reporting under technical backstopping from UNDP Resilient Ecosystems Director.• Updated geospatial data analysis of land degradation neutrality indicators: land cover, soil carbon, and land productivity using QGIS.• Fostered linkages, networks, partnerships, and synergies with ongoing national and regional programs dealing with sustainable soil management and land rehabilitation activities.

• Prepared and monitored work plan for land degradation neutrality (LDN) target setting process at national level• Mobilized the composition of the LDN national working group and engagement of key stakeholders.• Facilitated the organization and delivery of relevant stakeholder consultation• workshops/events (i.e., inception workshops, technical meetings, validation workshops) and related reporting.• Prepared and monitored LDN country budget in line with the UNCCD-UNDP work plan and with support of the Ministry of Environment Kenya.• Analysed and assessed the policy coherence of existing land-based commitments/targets and their complementarity and overlap at country level eg. Land Reclamation policy.• Led specific recommendations for policy improvement, including for future updating of LDN targets and measures: Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs); National Action plans (NAPs) and National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs).• Assessed and and made specific recommendations on how to make LDN targets and measures more quantitative, specific, time-bound, and spatially explicit.• Undertook gap analyses and made specific recommendations for improved delivery plans for implementation of land-based targets, with a focus on LDN and including estimated funding gaps and a proposed investment case.• Defined concrete collaborations and partnerships with technical and financing (Green Climate Fund) partners to support the development of relevant transformative projects and programmes for LDN implementation.
