I am a foreign correspondent based in Beijing with American business channel CNBC. I aim to bring our viewers interesting takes on the news in the most honest, authentic, accurate, and balanced way that I can. (In other words, I don’t get much sleep— and you don’t want to look at my bitten down nails.)Little known facts about me:1. I geek out at factories. (Good for reporting in manufacturing towns. Irritating for cameramen when I cluelessly stand in their shot, mesmerized by a production line.)2. My dream reporting assignment is the U.S. city of Detroit. (I have been covering the car boom in Asia for years— and am dying to see where it all began.)3. I used to be the English voice on the Seoul subway in South Korea. (I rewrote the script to the one you hear today and can recite a killer “This stop is City Hall” 😏.)4. I was once unofficially named by colleagues as “one of the three correspondents you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.” (For better or worse, I have serious grit. I blame my Korean genes. 🙃)I am always curious and, despite all the technological changes and current skepticism about the media industry, I am unwaveringly committed to journalism as public service.
