In the Seoul office, Dark Matter Labs Asia has collaborated with local governments and research organisations for the past three years. Recently, the focus has shifted towards prototyping proofs of possibilities for civic assets and infrastructures. This shift includes developing new capabilities such as 'radicle civics,' 're:permissioning the city,' 'value-generating housing,' 'care-driven city,' and more for a civic transition.

I was involved in various urban experimental projects in social innovation and large-scale systems change programmes across Europe, Asia, and North America. These projects include financial health (Tokyo), human capital movement (Dubai), food waste/nutrition (UAE), free zone trade (Dubai), social housing and care (Wales), childcare (Birmingham), mental health (Stockholm), climate-neutral cities (Sweden), civic capital (Toronto), global risks and strategic hedges (UNDP), and human development (Global Education). One particularly significant project was 'Impact Movements: place-based system change in the North Camden Zone.' This project laid the foundational thinking around complex systemic changes by exploring governance, finance, regulation, and culture, emphasising deep code innovation.

MicroMassive (trading via Dark Matter Laboratories) was established during the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a focus on place-based strategic innovation in South Korea.During the Covid-19 pandemic, it began by developing the design and delivery of the Asian Young Activist Research Fellowship Programme, followed by the creation of five-year plans for the Seoul Global Open Campus. These critical projects allowed us to collaborate with the Korea Central Government and Korean cities, bringing strategic design practices to the K-Smart Cities agenda/Initiatives.

Ayarf (Asia Young Activist Researcher Fellowship) is a platform for exchange and collaboration among young activist researchers aimed at addressing urban challenges in Asia. It supports 20-30 activist researchers across the Asian region during a 14-day residency, proposing radical future scenarios and provocations.

An EU-funded project eventually evolved into an independent venture. Colour-in City promoted subjective well-being data using Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies and Conversational Chatbots (AI), catalysing co-creative relationships between citizens and public services.During the process of developing the 'Proof of Concept/MVP 1.0,' our team adopted open-source co-creation approaches to build learning communities among citizens, the design team, and public services. While the backend and frontend digital/tech stack collected subjective well-being data to support public service provisions, we also developed data ethics and privacy frameworks for the use of personal data.

I worked in a design studio at the Innovation Unit, where a team of 9-10 designers assisted with various design tasks for public services. In my role, I focused on ‘data storytelling’, public communication, mapping systems, ethnographic research, and creating design processes and methodologies for service design.
