We all deserve a strong start in life.It sounds simple, but that’s not the way life goes for many, especially children of color or those born into poverty. Over the course of my career, I’ve used my Ph.D. in Child and Developmental Psychology to change that narrative. By extensively studying and writing about pregnant woman and expectant families, and children and their families—especially those challenged by poverty and racial or gender inequality, I’ve been able to advocate for and implement initiatives that promote the equitable learning experiences and environments needed for all young children and their families to lead productive lives. I believe in the power of data to reflect and tell the powerful stories of young children and their families. My colleagues know that I think data can be delightful – rich information to inform and provide the platform for continuous improvement.I have developed and presented a significant number of trainings on a wide variety of early childhood development and education topics here in the United States and as far away as Brazil and Kenya.I am an expert grant researcher and writer and have successfully advocated for over $6.9 million in grant money for various early childhood, EHS, Head Start, and family programs. Professional Skills: Grant, Research and Report Writing; In-person and Online Public Speaking; Organizational Dexterity; Program Trainer and Evaluator; Program Documentation and Implementation; Project Management; Qualitative Data Analysis and Synthesis; Relationship Building; Research and Survey Design and Implementation; Strategic Leadership and Communication; Team Collaboration; and Workshop and Media (television and print) Liaison. Areas of Specialization and Research: Early Childhood Development; Pregnancy and Childbirth; Parenting; Poverty, Family Engagement, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. One More Thing: I always stay calm under pressure or when faced with adversity, and I consistently maintain a focus on continuous improvement no matter what my role.
