I am passionate about the potential of liberal education to form leaders for a democratic and equitable society of the future. I believe with all my heart that students trained in the arts and sciences possess skills necessary to confront the big questions of today and tomorrow. The most important skill today is learning how to learn. No degree program can fully prepare students for the ever-accelerating world of knowledge work. Technical skills learned today become obsolete tomorrow. But a profound respect for truth, an appreciation of beauty, an ability to ask trenchant questions, a flexibility of mind, a comfort with ambiguity and multiplicity, a capacity for empathy, kindness, and listening---these traits will stand the test of time. It is my life's work to open doors to students who can benefit from the infinite advantages of liberal learning.
