I have recently received an offer from TeachFirst to teach Science at a secondary school in the South West starting with training in June. This is a 2-year training programme that will allow me to achieve a PGCE and work towards a leadership position in a school. TeachFirst is an organisation that helps young people from lower-income backgrounds achieve their goals, so I am delighted that I will be a part of striving towards stopping inequality in education.

I will be completing my Teach First PGCE training at Robert Blake School in Bridgwater from September. I am excited to be a trainee science teacher at a school with great facilities for practicals and a brilliant staff team. Throughout my time here, I will teach KS3 and KS4 and learn through experience, observation and meetings with colleagues. I love that the school values nature, they even have an outdoor classroom and polytunnel for plants!

I am an aspiring educational psychologist who started this path at the University of Exeter. During my time here, I was an academic representative for psychology, which included communicating areas for improvement in the department, as suggested by fellow students. The Coachbright programme, brought to my attention by the University, allowed me to work with pupil premium children in a secondary school in Exeter for a few sessions in my first year. Additionally, I assisted PhD students with administrative tasks for their projects, which was good experience to develop organisational skills. My dissertation was titled 'Can our eyes reveal what we have learned? Using the subphonemic mismatch effect to understand memory and sleep.'. This project was really enjoyable, as my project group had the opportunity to collect the data for this ourselves, so we spent a lot of time testing participants in the labs at the university. I particularly enjoyed my brain imaging and psychology of play modules, as these are topics I am very interested in.

I spent my time at university tutoring secondary school students alongside my studies to build up my interpersonal skills in an educational setting. This helped me understand how students' learning styles differ and how there is not one teaching style to fit all, which is especially useful due to my interest in educational psychology as a future career. I planned lessons and created resources tailored to students. I tutored a total of 443 lessons with a range of pupils in Science and English.

I was employed by Qa research to conduct assessments with nursery school children. This research contributed towards the development of the Early Talk Boost programme, changing many children's lives. The skills of communication I developed at this role will aid my path to becoming an educational psychologist as it will give me some experience communicating with younger children as I have not had any experience in this area.

I worked as a Student Brand Manager for Student Cribs showing properties to potential tenants. I took on this role as I felt I needed some experience in business to develop my skills in communicating effectively through social media and understanding how businesses keep a consistent brand. I love that Student Cribs is built on the idea that students deserve a safe, clean living space rather than whatever is left on the market. Hence, this emphasis on young people being treated with respect contributes to my career path to an educational psychologist.
