I have implemented Hi-C and Pore-C to map the 3D genome of the human retina and determine 3D impact of structural variation in retinal diseases. As a postdoctoral researcher I also contribute to lab management, mentoring of PhD students, funding applications and teaching assignments.

I researched the regulatory genomics of neurological disorders in the Vergult and Menten labs. I built extensive expertise in 3C technologies (4C, UMI-4C), enhancer assays, variant interpretation, data analysis etc. I mentored students, initiated (inter)national collaborations, communicated results at conferences and in top-tier journals.

I coached ~30 PhD students on scientific communication (presentation skills etc.) while I served as a coach on Jean-luc Doumont’s ‘Effective Scientific Communication’ course.

The ‘International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM)’ competition is a prestigious contest in synthetic biology. Student teams develop their own projects from theoretical concept to experimental implementation. In 2013, I was a member of the first team from Ghent University to participate in this competition.
