Honorary Appointee - Research Intern

National Hospital For Neurology And Neurosurgery

London, United Kingdom

For my Master Thesis I was an honorary appointee at the neuropsychology department at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The thesis was about cognitive impairment after stroke and how to improve the screening assessment. During this experience, I was part of an academic research team and I gained/performed many advanced research/IT skills such as creating a database, handling patient files while using CDR, and processing hospital data. I acquired advanced computer skills, I dealt with sensitive issues and stressful situations and maintained confidentiality of data. Furthermore, I worked independently as well as effectively, and I took initiative by suggesting research strategies. Additionally, as I worked with medical staff, I have gained valuable insights in how the department is organised with its different roles and I have seen stroke survivors with different profiles of cognitive impairment.
