Dr. Eva Leighton believes that successful therapy is built on a foundation of deep trust and close collaboration between the client and the therapist. Her warm and supportive style also embraces humor as a path to discovery and acceptance. Dr. Leighton builds an in-depth understanding of the root causes of each client’s unique problems using theories from developmental psychology and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She then develops a treatment plan that draws from her extensive experience with a variety of treatment techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and relational/psychodynamic therapy.Dr. Leighton received her PhD in clinical psychology from The City College of New York and received additional training in The Psychological Center at City College. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Pleasantville Psychology Group and her pre-doctoral internship at the Hudson Valley Veterans Administration Hospital, working with veterans in the PTSD residential treatment program and other veterans seeking outpatient treatment for substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and sexual challenges. She has also worked with patients on the schizophrenia unit at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester. Dr. Leighton’s research has focused on loneliness and depression. Much of her clinical work has been with people recovering from traumatic experiences, helping them regain peace, re-engage with their emotions, improve their relationships, and recover from anxiety, depression and addictive behaviors.
