Eva E. Marszewski, O. Ont., L.S.M., Founder of Peacebuilders International (Canada) 2003, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors, admitted to the Ontario bar in 1975, litigator, arbitrator, mediator, trainer, systems designer, mentor, advisor.For her work designing & implementing the Restorative Youth Circles (RYC) Program, Toronto’s first court-annexed restorative justice youth diversion program - and training community volunteers to facilitate Peacebuilding Circles to deliver that program, Eva was awarded the 2006 Law Society Medal, the 2006 YMCA Peace Medallion, the 2009 Dianne Martin Medal for Social Justice Through Law, and a 2010 Ashoka Fellowship. Having diverted over 1,200 kids out court, the RYC Program easily saved taxpayers 45 million in incarceration costs alone, (based on reasonably expected recidivism rates, not counting police, prosecution, legal aid, court administration, lost HR).In 2012 and 2013, as Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, she designed and taught the law school’s first course on Restorative Justice: “Law and Social Change: Restorative Justice”In 2012, she designed and established Peacebuilders’ pioneering Restorative Schools Program in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (the 3rd largest school board in North America), based upon the use of Peacebuilding Circles delivered in inner city schools with the support of administrators, teachers and community volunteers resulted in a 60 % to 80% reduction in students’ suspensions from school. Eva was awarded the 2013 Roy McMurtry Community Service Award, the 2015 Marvin E. Johnson Diversity and Equity Award from the Association for Conflict Resolution. Selected from over 60 applicants from North America, Peacebuilders was named the 2015 Emil Gumpert Award recipient by the American College of Trial Lawyers, only the second Canadian organization to receive this prestigious award. In 2015, Eva was awarded the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest civic honour recognizing her high level of individual excellence and achievement in community-based peacebuilding and Restorative Justice.In 2019, Eva was the recipient of York University’s Bryden Lifetime Achievement Award.Eva is now developing the conceptual framework of a Kids (10-25) Regenerative Justice Center, separate from the criminal justice system, to disrupt youth and adolescent conflict and transform it into opportunities for growth, leadership and co-creation.Specialties: Analytical Skills, Capacity Building, Leadership Development, Policy, Systems design
