Except for a couple of years as a lecturer at Åbo Akademi University where I got my masters in computer science, my whole career has been about IT systems for the hospitality industry. With Hotellinx Systems, I have been since we installed our first systems in the nineteen nineties and I started as a software developer. During the years, I have written program code, written user’s guides, specifications and other technical documents, created demos, presentations and other marketing material, worked with sales, done training, support and installations, been in charge of a vast range of integration development projects and participated in many other various types of development projects in cooperation with our customers, as well as looked after Hotellinx key accounts and Hotellinx resellers world wide. And this is exactly the reason why I still today am with the same company - it has given me a chance to try so many different things, while at the same time staying in the same familiar business area.However, some years ago I realised that I once again wanted to be a student and see if I can be successful in some totally different area than IT, so I signed up for a bachelor program in criminology and psychology with The Open University, UK. Working full time, I studied half time and after six fantastic and life-changing OU years, learning not only criminology, psychology and many transferable skills, but also developing as a person, I proudly achieved my BA, first-class honour. I studied mostly for fun, but when finished, felt that it would be nice if I could use all I had learnt for something also outside my everyday work, which led me to volunteer for the Finnish Victim Support. My combined criminology-psychology exam turned out to be perfect for this type of volunteer work and being able to offer at least some support to at least a few people who have gone through traumatic experiences is not only very satisfactory, but has also given me new perspectives on my own life and a lot to think about.In the future, I hope to continue to combine everyday work with volunteer victim support work and keep learning and developing, since learning - anything and everything - is something I really enjoy and love.
