About Yiannis E.
I consider myself as a detail-oriented, creative person with extensive professional experience in education and tourism management. My first working experiences in the tourism industry were in hotels and travel agencies, where as a trainee I worked initially in food and beverage environments, then moved to front office only to realise that I was fascinated a lot by travel agency operations and the organisation of bespoke tours and small conferences and events. In 1996 I embarked on a new chapter in my life and relocated to the UK where I pursued postgraduate studies and later worked in various jobs. My professional career expanded to teaching and research and later, when I moved back to Greece, to management consulting, working with start-ups from university research labs, while I also got involved with local government and policy making specialising in tourism, culture, and local development. Since 2014, I work as a tourism lecturer in a private educational institute in Lucerne, Switzerland and also travel extensively across Europe and Southeast Asia on teaching, research projects and attending academic and trade conferences. I like to think of myself as a multi-cultural person. I was born and raised in Greece, lived, studied and worked for several years in the UK and since 2014 in Switzerland. I very enjoy teaching people a lot, although I prefer to see myself more as a learning facilitator, rather than a traditional teacher. During all these years I have acquired a wealth of experiences, soft skills and technological competences in managing learning processes as well as study programmes, of academic, but also vocational nature. I am also very experienced in the design and validation of academic programmes from certificate to postgraduate level, as well as programme daily management, reporting and quality monitoring. While travel and tourism is my core, I was always intrigued and fascinated by history and the study of cultures. This has pushed me to pursue postgraduate studies in public history, where I am about to begin with my dissertation in the coming academic year. In my free time I enjoy photography as well as bread and pizza making!
