Under the guidance of Dr. Sparks and a small undergraduate team, we are focusing on assessing the "shelf-life" of polymers designed to simulate human muscle. These polymers were previously developed for a model of the lower spine developed for Wake Forest Medical School students to practice minimally invasive discectomy. My role consists of conducting mechanical tests to map stress vs. strain curves of polymer samples with varying crosslinker densities, as well as examining the effects of oxygen exposure on these polymers.

For the 8-9 weeks in the summer of 2022, 2023, and 2024 (40 hrs/week), I worked under the mentorship of AFRL scientists in the 711th Human Performance Wing, where I contributed to the development of biosensors as part of the Air Force Research Lab's mission to understand the physiological biomarker changes in warfighters. - Designed protocols and conducted experiments with Bio-layer Interferometry, Meso-Scale Discovery, plate-based assays, and lateral flow assays to quantify small molecule binding in various conditions. - Provided mentorship to a student in the same branch, familiarizing them with working in a lab.- Attended branch meetings, presented my project findings, and summarized my work at poster sessions at the end of each summer-Provided necessary data for a publication, "Rational Approach to Optimizing Conformation-Switching Aptamers for Biosensing Applications"
