Undergraduate Student Researcher
CurrentUnder the guidance of Dr. Sparks and a small undergraduate team, we are focusing on assessing the "shelf-life" of polymers designed to simulate human muscle. These polymers were previously developed for a model of the lower spine developed for Wake Forest Medical School students to practice minimally invasive discectomy. My role consists of conducting mechanical tests to map stress vs. strain curves of polymer samples with varying crosslinker densities, as well as examining the effects of oxygen exposure on these polymers.
