As a Legal Assistant at The Carlson Law Firm, I was responsible for managing a docket of Medical Malpractice and Nursing Home Malpractice Civil Cases. I was responsible for both pre-litigation and litigation cases, my docket being divided with approximately 60% being in litigation and 40% in pre-litigation or other statuses. This included tasks such as editing and drafting professional legal documents that would then be either e-filed in counties across Texas, served to subsequent counsels, etc.. I also was responsible for basic administrative tasks for my cases such as sending checks, regular client communication, profiling all received documents in PerfectLaw/AIM, legal research via WestLaw, and obtaining and organizing discovery exhibits.

I worked at Texas Appleseed, a non-profit legal aid firm in Austin, Texas, that works with underrepresented groups in Austin. I collected and organized data to be used by my mentor in economic justice projects. I assisted with projects in Legal Aid, focusing on financial services, and completed data collection by communicating with political offices and organizing data using Microsoft Office tools such as Excel. I not only got to experience traditional forms of justice, but I also got the opportunity to learn more about social, economic, and many other forms of legal justice through research, sitting in on meetings, and offering thoughts and ideas on projects across multiple fields.
