The Commonwealth Treasury’s purpose is to support and implement informed decisions on policies for the good of the Australian people, consistent with achieving strong, sustainable economic growth and fiscal settings.Since June 2022 Eva has been working in the office of the Hon Jim Chalmers MP, Treasurer, as Senior Departmental Liaison Officer, and leading the Commonwealth Treasury's team of Departmental Liaison Officers working across Treasury ministers' offices.

Secondment from the Commonwealth Treasury to the Parliamentary Budget Office's Revenue Analysis Branch.Responsibilities:> Costing business and indirect tax policy proposals from parliamentarians> Communicating with parliamentarians’ offices to confirm the specification of policy proposals and explain the costing outcomes, including by drafting costing minutes and cover lettersAchievements:> Quickly gained familiarity with the PBO’s costing process, enabling me to plan and undertake fairly complex costings independently, and to add value to my teammates’ costings during the quality assurance process> Successfully explained my costing methodologies and defended my assumptions to the senior executive in the PBO as part of the clearance process

Responsibilities:> Holding briefings containing all necessary information for 33 late high school students from across Australia and New Zealand to prepare for an 11 week student exchange to Germany> Escorting all students during travel between Germany and Australia and remaining in Germany and contactable by the students at all times for the length of the exchange> Assuming responsibility for students’ welfare for the duration of the exchange> Establishing and maintaining a relationship with each student, including remaining in regular contact with them to ascertain their wellbeing> Answering all queries from students and parents relating to the exchange> Collecting and organising travel permission forms, health forms and photocopies of all important documents from the students in the lead-up to the exchange> Liaising with a travel agent to ensure the correct flight plan for each student> Liaising between the branches of the organisation in each state and countryAchievements:> Successfully negotiated the German medical and legal systems on behalf of students> Created an environment in which the students were able to challenge themselves and increase their independence, while maintaining clear boundaries to ensure their safety> Received the trust and respect of students and parents> Supported students through medical and emotional crises, including follow-up post exchange> Regularly reported to the organisation during the exchange and wrote a final report that included recommendations for the exchange in the future> Improved German language skills
