I am an enthusiastic and innovative artist and teacher with over a decade of classroom experience with diverse populations. I am dedicated to developing engaging, hands-on learning environments that nurture creativity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. I have an extensive background in integrating interdisciplinary teaching methods, particularly in the areas of culture and social justice in diverse educational environments, as well as developing and implementing student-centered, inclusive, and culturally relevant curricula which enhance academic skills and promote language acquisition and intercultural understanding. I am passionate about fostering a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere that empowers students to explore forces that shape the world around them, while encouraging active citizenship and empathy. bell hooks wrote in her book, Teaching to Transgress, “As a classroom community, our capacity to generate excitement is deeply affected by our interest in one another, in hearing one another’s voices, in recognizing one another’s presence.” I carry this in my heart as a general rule for how to treat others, and it drives my practice as a teacher. In my classroom I will promote authenticity of self, self-love, and ceaseless exploration as a means of creation.I most recently worked as an art teacher in a Montessori school, where I developed the curriculum. Also at this school I taught yoga and mindfulness, managed the atelier, worked with a team of teachers to manage classrooms, assisted the director, maintained relationships with the children and their families, followed IEPs, and I even organized a fundraiser.Beginning this summer, I became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer as a voice for children in the foster care system, advocating for their best interests during legal proceedings. Appointed by the court, I work closely with children, families, social workers, attorneys, and other stakeholders to gather relevant information, monitor the child's well-being, and ensure that their needs are being met. My role is to provide independent, objective recommendations to the court regarding the child’s safety, placement, and overall welfare, with the goal of ensuring a stable and supportive environment for the child.I also volunteer for the Nola Flower Collective, Trystereo, Crisis Hotline, and Zeus Animal Shelter, and I'm currently working towards a Project Management certification.
