I've been fascinated with growing plants since I was a child, growing up learning about everything from native Pacific Northwest plants, to a wide range of indoor and outdoor ornamentals, to edibles. My first job was at a local retail nursery. While earning my bachelors degree in horticulture, I managed the horticultural teaching conservatory, caring for the plants and helping to provide material for propagation and ID classes, gaining practical experience along with my formal education. I've worked with the Smithsonian orchid collection and New England native plants. I've interned at Longwood and worked as an assistant garden curator at Juniper Level Botanic Gardens. I have a talent for propagation which I practice regularly as an independent propagator and have worked as propagator at Cistus Nursery, handling a diverse range of plant material.
