I have approximately 25 years experience as a writer, journalist and photographer, as well as an abundance of public relations and social media experience. My interview skills are top notch and thanks to my years as a writer and editor, I have honed my skills for research and breaking down complex subjects for the average person to understand. I am the former editor of a newspaper in southwest Alabama, where I developed strong relationships within the communities the publication serves. In my current position as the publication manager for several community magazines in North Alabama, I am using those skills to bring readers the news they want to share with each other. I also have a number of technical and interpersonal skills, which aid me in many areas. Social MediaI initiated a Social Media interactive program at The South Alabamian, which encouraged interaction with readers through their Facebook page. That interaction included short news updates which often included photos and videos to boost readership for our print publication. This interaction enhanced our understanding of the “pulse” of our audience and afforded us the opportunity to steer our publication in a direction that pleased the majority of them.
