We offer young adults a chance to live with, work among, and develop positive, mutually beneficial relationships with the people of Ecuador. Rostro de Cristo also provides short-term mission immersion opportunities to high school, college, and adult groups which foster a deepened faith, an openness to learn from the people of Ecuador, and to extend friendship to them. Lived, worked and shared life with the people of Cochabamba, Bolivia as a Catholic lay missioner. I worked in the areas of mission formation; social political, and economic contextualization; human, environmental and indigenous rights; and pastoral ministry. I taught Spirituality of Mission, investigated and wrote articles on Bolivia’s new constitution and the mining sector, guided delegations of US activists and other groups seeking to learn about the Bolivian reality and social movements, and started a summer camp program in our parish. Director of the Ignatio Volunteer Program, a series of short-term international and cross-cultural service-learning experiences. These included programs in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, US-Mexico Border (Tijuana), and Belize. The purpose of the experiences was to offer students an opportunity to live out their faith, learn from the local people about the world we live in, deepen a commitment to social justice, and build community.
