Hi, I am Evan Elyea. I am Currently studying Mechanical Engineering at The University of Cincinnati. I am the current founder and recruitment chairmen of the Phi Delta Theta Cincinnati chapter where I use my leadership skills to train a team of individuals on how to recruit. I am also on the leadership team for Campus Outreach. Campus Outreach is a Christian organization on campus where we seek out to share the gospel with college students on campus who maybe have never heard of Jesus before. I am in search of a Spring Coop opportunity. I have coding experience in VBA, MATLAB, Python, and LabView. I worked as an intern at a machine shop and worked under an engineer. This taught me valuable skills about engineering, the environment, and the safety of the field. I learned how to restore broken tools by welding and machining them. The engineering environment is a whole new workspace in comparison to the fast food places I worked at. People weren't always looking over your shoulder making sure you were doing everything perfect. There was respect and honor in the space. They had expectations, but as long as I was meeting those I wasn't being heckled. The field I was in had razor sharp medals, black oxide, argon gas, and mils. All these things are dangerous to the average person so I learned a lot of safety rules that the normal person might not know. Another thing about me is that I love learning. I enjoy solving problems and figuring out the most efficient and effective way possible. I like playing odds and figuring out which option is the best choice for my life or others if they ask me for advice. Phi Delta Theta has given me plenty of opportunities to expand on these skills. I get a lot of freedom when it comes to being a recruitment chair. My number one trait is probably my leadership skills. Since I am on the leadership team with Campus Outreach I get a lot of opportunities to grow in this skill. In Engineering class at University of Cincinnati I get to experience what leading a team looks like. I lead my team through all of the projects we do so I get a little taste of what it looks like to have a team and make sure everything gets done well and on time. As A founder of the Phi Delta Theta Cincinnati chapter I have grown a lot in the last year. It is a struggle to build a chapter from the ground up but I have found much joy in restoring my chapter back to what once was a strong chapter.
