Transferred to BIDAir Services in 2007 as Senior Divisional Executive: Ramp Handling with the award of a General Ramp Handling Licence to BIDAir Services for operations commencing 1 March 2008.BIDAir Services is part of BIDServ, the services Division of BIDVest, also a JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange) listed Company.BIDAir Services commenced operations in March 2008 with a combined staff complement of nearly 3500 employees, handling 32 Airlines (Domestic, Regional and International) at six of the ACSA owned and managed airports throughout South Africa, namely O.R. Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport, Durban and later King Shaka International Airport, Port Elizabeth Airport, East London Airport and George Airport.Due to the large capital investment by BIDVest in specialised ground support equipment (230 million rand) I was offered a new portfolio (Director: Fleet and Procurement) through the course of 2009, which I accepted.The Director: Fleet and Procurement portfolio had three Divisions which I was responsible for, namely Fleet Services, responsible for the entire fleet of motor vehicles and specialised GSE, Procurement for BIDAir Group and Aircraft Exterior Washing of customer/airline aircraft.

Joined Commuter Handling Services (CHS) in 1994 as Deputy General Manager and was appointed as General Manager in 1999.CHS was a subsidiary of Comair Limited (Airline), a JSE listed Company.CHS was a Ground Handling Company to Comair limited tasked with the ground handling all of Comair’s flights nationally (kulula.com flights and British Airways franchise flights) in South Africa (approximately 5200 flights per month in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and George.Ground handling functions consisted of all operational aspects of handling shareholder flights including passenger transport between the terminals and the airport apron, handling of PRM’s (passengers with reduced mobility), baggage and cargo loading and offloading, aircraft pushback and towing, VIP handling, check-in counter assistance etc.In addition to this, CHS had its own vehicle maintenance and manufacturing section that provided preventative maintenance and repairs to all Company owned vehicles and ground support equipment.

Joined the S.A.A.F. permanent force in January 1986 and completed three months’ basic training. Completed the Recruits’ Chefs Course in 1987 and an Advanced Chefs Course in 1989 to qualify as a Chef.Appointed as Shift Leader at the WO’s (Warrant Officers) Club at Langebaanweg in 1990 and was, thereafter, transferred to the Officers Club in 1991 as Assistant Club Manager. I was appointed as Acting Club Manager of the Officers Club in 1992 and held the post until leaving the Defence Force in 1994
