As an aspiring Behavioral Technician with a background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), I am deeply passionate about helping individuals, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder, develop the communication and social skills they need to thrive. My journey in this field began with volunteer work, and over time, I have developed the expertise needed to successfully navigate the unique challenges of clinical settings.In my role as a Behavior Technician at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, I worked closely with children facing various developmental challenges. Whether I was addressing communication barriers or guiding them through challenging behaviors, I consistently adapted my approach to meet each client's individual needs. I quickly learned that success in this field is not just about understanding ABA techniques but also about being present, empathetic, and flexible, particularly when faced with unpredictable schedules or initial resistance from clients. One of my key strengths is my ability to build rapport with clients, especially those who struggle to communicate their feelings. I have learned that relating to people on a personal level is crucial for success in this field. For instance, when working with a client who often expressed frustration and negative emotions, I took the time to understand their perspective. By the third session, we had developed a strong connection that allowed for smoother, more productive interactions. In addition to my hands-on experience in behavior therapy, I have a strong academic foundation in psychology, which has equipped me with valuable skills for conducting research and understanding cognitive development. My final research project on cognitive functioning and aging not only expanded my knowledge of human behavior but also honed my analytical skills, which I apply when collecting and analyzing data in clinical settings. Ultimately, my goal is to continue growing in this field and make a lasting difference in the lives of those I work with. I am committed to helping individuals overcome behavioral challenges, improve their communication skills, and lead more fulfilling lives.
