While working here, I assisted with fracture critical inspections of bridges owned by counties and cities within the state of Iowa. Apart from entering data into SIIMS, I also calculated load ratings for bridges. After gaining some experience I designed an abutment repair for a bridge. Throughout my internship, I had to communicate with nearly all of the employees in the office in order to accomplish tasks.In my second summer here, I did much of the same work, but with added responsibilities such as filling out SI&A's and preliminary designs.

At this job, I prepared made-to-order food for customers at various food stations. I also cleaned the stations, kitchen, and dining area as well as washed dishes. When new employees needed to be trained, I instructed them on how to do their shift properly.

I designed proposed and planned modifications to traffic intersections within the city of Dortmund using VESTRA while working in the traffic intersection department. I also spent time with other departments within the civil engineering office such as the surveying department where I worked with surveying crews in the field as well as with engineers in the office. Before my internship ended, I trained an employee who was new to the traffic intersection department how to use VESTRA for the desired tasks.

I worked in crews while sometimes leading the crew to landscape, work in gardens, or do other tasks for clients. Occasionally, I would perform upkeep and organizational tasks on the business grounds.
