In my new position with the City, I continue in a more focused way in the development of the City's SCADA system, now integrating the waster water system with the electric system. I also manage the IT/OT network, with a focus on security to protect our utility systems. I also continue supporting protective relay devices on our electric distribution system, substation operations, our electric system drawings, arc flash program at the Electric Plant, and maintenance and expansion of our fiber optic network.Long term goals include integration of the smart meter network with the SCADA system to provide operations with a real time view of our distribution grid conditions and facilitate a more rapid response to system outages. We also look to link the water plant in Mentor Headlands to the rest of the City via fiber optics in the not too distant future.

Responsible for maintenance and upgrades of electronic equipment at substations and the electric plant. Engineering our SCADA system at the Electric Division. Project management of electric and electronic projects throughout the City. Working with outside engineers on our smart meter initiative to incorporate functions into our SCADA system for remote shutoffs/turn-ons and power monitoring for improved customer service during outages. Maintaining and updating our fiber optic network.

My responsibilities include maintaining all electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems for the operation of three coal fired boilers, coal feed and storage systems, ash vacuum systems, pollution control systems, and four steam turbine generators. My current long term project is development of our distribution SCADA system and smart grid initiative.Recently added to my core responsibilities is the design and installation of a citywide fiber optic network to connect all city departments to the city network at gigabit+ speeds, Leveraging our existing microwave backhaul as a failover to maintain connection in the event of a fiber failure, and integration of new security technologies to provide transparent access to the SCADA system from remote locations.
