Mentoring pre-med students as they study for the MCAT is a blessing which allows me to combine my love for science and with my passion for personal connection. To me, preserving the wonder which science inspires in people is essential. Not only does this make studying easier for students, but it contextualizes the MCAT within their broader career goals. Rather than viewing the MCAT as an abominable obstacle, I coach my students to see it as an opportunity to hone the incisive reasoning skills which define great physicians. Moreover, this process can—and should—be fun!As an MCAT tutor and online course instructor, I am dedicated to empowering students to unlock their full potential. With a strategic focus on practice and problem-solving, I guide students to approach the MCAT as a solvable puzzle, where scientific knowledge, logic, and critical reading converge. My passion lies in demystifying even the most daunting questions, breaking them down into manageable steps to reveal their simplicity. I strive to equip students with the confidence and skills needed to demonstrate their readiness for medical school and their future as physicians.

As a medical scribe working for KC Scribes, I documented patient encounters, researched medical histories, and performed organizational tasks for 9 orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians, as well as 8 mid-level practitioners.The practices at OrthoKansas in which I worked focused on: non-surgical sports medicine, sports medicine orthopedic surgery, hand surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, arthroscopic surgery for the knee and hip, total joint replacement, and orthopedic express care.

I have been able to successfully deliver critical health information to students and community members by closely adhering to the following goals:(1) to provide high-quality, evidence-based health education while counteracting my own biases toward these subjects;(2) to prioritize empathy, humility, and adaptability in the field of health education;(3) 'meeting people where they are at' and emphasizing patience, respect, and helping people to make their own informed decisions.As a Peer Health Education Coordinator, I am extremely happy to have been involved in the revival of the Peer Health Ambassador volunteer program, which had lain dormant since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As of February 2022, a cohort of 25 volunteers was recruited. Currently, I am assisting with their training and with the development of health projects tailored to their interests. In addition, I have been involved with designing social media campaigns, writing statements about issues regarding public health, and engaging directly with community members through in-person tabling events and wellness-oriented activities.

Worked in the lab of Dr. Randolph Nudo, under the direct supervision of Dr. Heather Hudson.My research project focused on investigating the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) on cortical gray matter volumes in rats when either treated with a stem cell-containing injection or a vehicle.In this role, I extensively used microscopy skills, stereological analysis software, and assisted with quantification and volume analysis.Early results showed a significant decrease in lesion size among the stem cell-recipients, with a large degree of variance among individual subjects.
