As a GIS Intern for the City of Portsmouth, I am responsible for helping keep the city's storm water and sewer systems up to date and functional. This includes performing data queries and analysis on the water distribution data in ArcGIS, as well as going conducting field inspections for storm water structures. Additionally, I have been assessing the condition of all sidewalks for the city.

Concord, Nh

My main responsibility at the Concord City Hall was to catalogue and record the locations of the city’s street signs. In order to accomplish this, I drove around town and took GPS points at each sign. Then I would use a program within ArcGIS to record the signs features, such as its reflectivity and sheeting condition. Additionally, I conducted a road condition survey to judge the quality of all the roads in the city. This was done by assigning a number to each of the road categories, and then using a table, I found the road’s overall index rating. This position taught me a lot about data collection for engineering purposes.

Merrimack, Nh

I created many designs for the town of Merrimack, most notably the plans for Robin Lane, as well as a series of catch basins for a neighborhood. I also took surveys for ongoing projects such as the installation of a new side walk, a parking lot, and boat ramp. I served as the eyes and ears for my supervisor, constantly keeping an eye on Merrimack’s many construction projects. During my time there I was also able to watch the construction of a new bridge being built from start to finish.

Epping, Nh

Worked with the planning board for the town of Epping to estimate the available space among various town owned buildings. During my internship, I took detailed measurements of buildings; including the town hall, library, and SAU building. I used AutoCAD to turn these measurements into floor plans. During town hall meetings, I presented my plans to a group of town officials, and they included my work in official town documents.
