As a seasoned Infection Prevention and Medical Laboratory Scientist with 17 years of diverse experience, I have honed my skills in various healthcare settings including ambulatory, acute care, long-term care, critical access, and research. My recent role involved steering Providence Swedish Medical Centers’ COVID response, where I fostered interdepartmental collaboration with multiple leaders to ensure patient and caregiver safety, efficient lab testing, medical supplies management, and effective internal/external communication. My expertise spans administration and change management, enabling me to deliver optimal results in planning and operations. I employ a solution-oriented approach to drive change, and adopt a servant leader style, utilizing diplomatic and analytical thinking to secure the best outcomes for our caregivers and patients. My professional engagements include active participation in numerous hospital committees, development and maintenance of a system-wide surveillance plan for Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs), and creation of hospital-based risk assessments and annual goals. I review Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) for high-risk healthcare construction projects and ensure adherence to Infection Prevention regulatory requirements across hospitals and clinics. I also collaborate with local hospitals and the Department of Health on best practices and Infection Prevention related issues, as a chair member of Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antibiotic Resistance (HAI-AR). Along with being an active member of the national Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), I have joined the University of Providence as an Adjunct Professor, sharing my passion and teaching graduate students Epidemiology and Infectious Disease. Recently, I spearheaded a subcommittee for the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health, Labor & Industries, and various Infection Preventionists across the state. Our collective efforts led to the update of Transmission Based Precaution signs and the creation of a visitor/patient guide to understand infection prevention precautions.
