SportGait is a medical technology startup that provides a comprehensive platform for concussion testing, management, recovery, and education.My biggest accomplishment so far has been leading the migration of all of our hosting infrastructure from VMs to Kubernetes as part of an effort to pass a SOC 2 Type II security audit. I began the project without any prior DevOps experience however I was able to quickly teach myself to use Azure, Docker, Helm and Kubernetes to accomplish our goal and pass the security audit. In addition, I wrote a deployment CLI in Bash to automate deployment for team members.My most recent accomplishment was leading the development of our ResearchGait mobile app. Older versions of our concussion test used wearable sensors to collect biomarkers during a walking test. With this new app I was able to collect the necessary data without the extra wearable sensors by taking advantage of the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors in the user's smartphone. I built the app from scratch in React Native. I was able to optimize the app's performance so it could handle reading each sensor an average of every 4ms without freezing or lagging. Since a 20s walking test taking readings from two sensors every 4ms results in tens of thousands of data points I had to build an API pipeline that was able to handle massive loads of data.My first project was to rewrite the entire backend using a promise based library called pg-promise. This resulted in faster, more readable routes with half the number of lines of code.
