Developed specification, defined architecture, built team, and led execution of the project to successful delivery.- Founding VP of Engineering for a solar-energy startup, driving product definition and design through initial production and deployment. Provided strategic and technical advice to the Board.- Temporary Executive leadership for a cloud-based software startup in transition, supporting the CEO during the exit of founders, and introducing a sustainable product development method.- Provided project-oriented review and guidance for a cloud technology company that was outsourcing an embedded design project to a foreign low-cost design contractor. Included hw/sw design review, design-to-cost, DFM, staffing, and project management advice.

Was charged with delivering an advanced electro-optical telecommunications switch under a tight schedule. Drove the design team to quickly build momentum and solidify the design in the initial phases of the project. Negotiated numerous trade-offs between marketing desires for product features, product cost, development cost, and team capability. Achieved the aggressive goal of having product ready for testing by customers within 2 years of project inception.Over this period, grew the headquarters design team from 30 people to approximately 100 people.

Co-founded Atmosphere Networks, a venture capital-funded telecommunications equipment manufacturer.Was a key contributor to product definition and company strategy, and drove the engineering development process. Hired and led the headquarters design team including hardware, software and test engineering personnel. Responsible for engineering project management and program management.Was instrumental in the sale of Atmosphere to Ditech Networks in 2000.
