Introducing common sense into organisations.I worked with a few small and medium companies that were looking to change the way they do business. One example is a software tool vendor that wanted to go back to delighting their customers. Another is a small fashion design shop on how to improve self-organisation in the organisation.I created and give Leadership Storytelling courses. I teach leaders & change agents how to use stories in their daily work to teach, inspire and change culture by telling stories.

My major focus was the adoption of Agile principles both inside and outside the IT area. It involved both formal training and on the job coaching of colleagues in how to apply these principles.One of my most successful projects in Bankwest is working with Sales and Credit colleagues in Commercial Lending to radically improve turn around time for credit decisions on business loans.

The Strategic Innovation Lab of KPN was tasked with re-imagining the future of communication and entertainment. In the Lab we co-created real working prototypes with customer and development partners in a Lean Startup fashion within a big multi-national. As a Lean Startup Coach I helped the team use Lean Startup Principles in building complex IT products. I was ultimately responsible for the technical implementation of the platform and apps on top of it. That involved aligning with our customer development team and coordinating and managing all of our outsourcing partners.

I have had a lot of different roles within Xebia, but most fall into one of 4 categories:• Senior Technical Consultant: Mainly focussed on improving development speed + capabilities through automated builds, continuous integration, performance testing and automated deployments.• IT Architect: Work with the development teams and architects of clients to create a vision and roadmap for the future of the IT landscape.• Auditor: Mainly code quality and security audits.• Agile Coach: Increase business agility by introducing Scrum and/or Kanban into the IT departments of organisations and creating flow by engaging business stakeholders.

I worked together with Senior IT Managers, Project Management Office and their business stakeholders to create a vision of the Agile Transformation of Nationale Nederlanden. We set up an Enterprise Transformation Center to guide the transformation. I also trained and coached internal coaches and Scrum Masters.

Chief architect responsible for the reinvention of the bank's Internet Banking, Internet Investment and Lending Back Office applications. All projects cost between EUR 5M and EUR 20M.I set the architectural vision for the projects and worked with the project managers to deliver frequent high quality releases.A big part of the job was working with all the distributed development teams to work on productivity and quality. We professionalised the Java development practices with things like test driven development, continuous integration, automated deployment.After showing Agile Development practices worked on the Internet Banking & Investment projects I also worked with Senior IT managers to introduce agile across the entire IT department.I am most proud of moving the bottleneck from IT who could not deliver to the Business who could not make up its mind fast enough.

As a Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead I did various project, including proof of concepts for mobile machine 2 machine (M2M) communication projects.

As Senior Engineer at the XML Technology centre I was involved in the standard committees of several XML related standards such as S2ML, SAML, UDDI and XML Digital Signatures. As input for the standards we build reference implementations to test the concepts. After the XML Digital Signature was finished I was responsible for transferring the reference implementation to the Apache Foundation and make it into a standard Java API.

Hush Communication was a small startup in 2000 that made a web-based encrypted email solution. It had developed a quick and dirty solution to gain users and show value to investors. After they closed a $6M round of funding I was brought in to hire and lead the team to do the design and implementation of version 2.0.

Systemics was a small startup that focussed on creating a digital version of cash as an alternative to credit cards. This included developing cryptographic libraries that were later released as Cryptix, a then popular cryptographic framework.

During my time at university I worked with small businesses on small IT projects. Anything from HTML template design to implementing a small MIS in a medium sized company.
