Currently I am Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Mathematics where I teach undergraduate students of the 4 years major in Biomedical Informatics (B.Sc.) and graduate candidates for the Medical Physics M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. I am also involved in student supervision and research in medical knowledge representation and the use of natural language processing methodologies to support health care.

My current research is with the CIQR – Context-Initiated Question and Response project under development at the University of Columbia. This project proposes to explore information technologies to help clinicians express information needs during clinical practice and to address these needs in the context of clinical workflow. My role in this project focus on translating high-level information needs into complex search strategies that reconcile users’ needs and resource’s capabilities.

At UNESP I started my academic career as the first hired professor for the new Computer Science major. Many lecturing hours and a great deal of involvement in University undergraduate services. I left for a position at a university campus closer to my family and to wife's work.
