Presently serving as a Public Affairs Specialist for the office of Chief of Public Affairs, leading the organization's social media strategy and implementation.The USACE Headquarters’ social media program serves as a comprehensive communication, training and consulting operation throughout the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Headquarters is active on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr and Army CORE.Research emerging trends, provide training and recommend new communication strategies. Responsible for advising USACE senior leaders, major subordinate commands, centers and field operation agencies. I also help others with quality control, streamlining operations and the removal of fraudulent accounts. I have directly supported the removal of 28k+ fraudulent accounts in this role.Following my first year in this role, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters was recognized with first place honors in the Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition for new media initiatives.In times of disaster, USACE is the lead agency for Emergency Support Function #3 (Public Works And Engineering) for the National Response Framework. In this capacity, I’ve coordinated social media efforts for hurricane events including Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence, Michael, and Ida as well as other natural disasters such as engineering support to the national COVID-19 response.

Following the deactivation of the Family and MWR Command my duties were integrated into the IMCOM Public Affairs Office.Responsibilities included the oversight and administration of presences on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Wikipedia and Scribd for Family and MWR Programs. Researched emerging trends, provided training and recommended new communication strategies.Provided traditional public affairs support to the command including story and photographic coverage.Noteworthy accomplishments included the achievement of over 25,000 connections through Facebook and the development of methods to streamline e-book production. Developed command-level iOS and Android application. Provided extensive photographic support for dignitary visits including Secretary of the Army John McHugh and Under Secretary of the Army Joseph Westphal.Facilitated the transition to new layouts for IMCOM and MWR social presences by designing and implementing new Facebook visuals in March 2012 and Twitter visuals in September 2012.Additional responsibilities included maintaining a government purchase card and, between June 2012 and December 2012, utilizing TLMS software to complete time cards for non-appropriated fund (NAF) personnel within the Public Affairs Office.During this time frame, I also produced several iOS apps of a military nature, including "Army Civilians" and "Military Questions." These were produced personally, but help to improve my app production techniques.

Following a re-designation from Visual Information to Public Affairs, I built upon my previous duties within the Public Affairs Office.

 By creating custom Facebook applications, I integrated additional content into our organizational page and began syndicating headquarter-level content to other Army pages. Utilizing the Facebook Ads service, I added thousands of connections through a series of varied campaigns. Within its pilot campaign, the page attained nearly 2,000 additional connections in one week.

 Pioneered the use of e-book technology within the organization. Produced versions of the Public Affairs Office magazine, Perspectives, as both epub and mobi files, compatible with nearly all commercially available e-readers.Later, I used this experience to personally produce a digital publishing reference guide which is currently distributed through Amazon Digital Publishing.

Collaboratively administered presences on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Wikipedia and Scribd for the Public Affairs Office of the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command.Researched emerging trends, provided training and recommended new communication strategies. Provided stories and imagery as necessary.Independently learned basics of iPhone application production and generated a mobile app for the command. The product, "Mobile MWR," was successfully distributed through the Apple App Store.Trained internal clients and monitored content contributed to command content management systems. Added and maintained content as specified by other directorates.Additional responsibilities included maintaining a government purchase card and, between March 2010 and September 2010, utilizing TLMS software to complete time cards for the Public Affairs Office.

Independent photojournalist concentrating on news, wedding and nature photography. Negotiated with clients and produced finished imagery as desired. Responsible for staying knowledgeable of photographic and reproduction techniques. Created and maintained The Valley Observer, formerly valleyobserver.com - an online news Web site utilizing the Wordpress content management system.

Directly supervised three photo editors and staff of photographers for annual student magazine. Taught workflow necessary for publication. Monitored quality control. Also photographed stories and created cover design. Independently created a Flash multimedia presentation for online use, including images and audio.

Co-directed the editorial staff of the 9,500 circulation twice-weekly student publication at James Madison University. Basic duties included working with editor on approval of story ideas, setting color allocation and page budgets, reviewing and copy editing stories during production, approving page layouts and coordinating printing. Ensured that all content was well-written, relevant and meaningful to a wide array of audiences, and identified and corrected flaws in printed materials. Worked with editor to identify long and short range goals for the newspaper. Also served as a liaison between the editorial department and the advertising department. Additionally, monitored and contributed to the online presence of The Breeze, while working to reorganize procedure for better efficiency of web content. Pioneered use of audio and Soundslides in addition to holding staff trainings on the topic of multimedia.

Directed staff of photographers and toned images for publication in twice weekly 9,500 circulation student newspaper. Utilized various imaging programs including Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge and Photo Mechanic, for purposes of digital photography processing and, when necessary, photo manipulation. Introduced online slideshows using Soundslides software. Held regular meetings with photography staff in addition to recruiting and evaluating new photographers. Marketed imagery for sale through online photo galleries.

Provided support to photography department of James Madison University's student newspaper by covering scheduled assignments requested by photo editor, as well as spot news by independently monitoring police scanners.

Covered spot and scheduled news in Rockingham County as a full-time intern for 33,000 circulation daily newspaper. Reported to director of photography and attended meetings as necessary.

Contributed to annual student magazine at James Madison University by taking photography assignments from photo editor, scheduling meetings to complete those projects and submitting images for publication.
