Produce network designs for BT’s CDN platform while developing systems and tools that manage, operate and deploy the platform’s infrastructure-as-code in production environments. Responsibilities include: • Leading the re-architecture and development of BT’s CDN Mapping Service. A swarm of containerised applications in a microservices-like architecture. Its purpose is to leverage BGP to optimally “map” end-users to content caches.• Manage deployment pipelines, as well as develop and deploy features, for legacy CDN systems in production environments.• Develop and maintain the BT CDN Modelling tool, built as a CDN Database and used for design automation, modelling and capacity management of BT’s CDNs. • Produce CDN interconnect designs for BT Group ISP and Core network. Our CDN partners include Akamai, Limelight, Lumen, Facebook, BskyB, Google, Netflix.• Capacity-manage the CDN platform during major BT Sport Events (UEFA Champions League / Europa League).

As the lead of the Network Integration team for BT’s Transmission platform, I was responsible for design verification, test and integration of all features and functionality for our fibre optic core Transmission network and Radio solutions.Challenges of the role include the planning and delivery of cross-platform model design and complete Integration testing within the timescales set by our customers, as well as the working on several projects spanning different network technologies at any given time.Key projects delivered: Introduction of new technologies for BT’s Transmission Core network like Ciena NGWDM 100Gbps wavelength services to production, low-cost interconnects between Core routers and Transmission, and Huawei OSN1800V low-cost backhaul chains.Major programmes include: - Introduction of OneControl EMS in BT DWDM platform- Isles of Scilly core growth to support high speed broadband.- Introduction of network components to reduce unit cost in BTs core WDM (SR10 CFP, Huawei OSN1800V)During this spell I got extensive visibility and hands-on experience on several WDM systems by Ciena (AF6500, CN4200, CoreStream and Coredirector), Huawei (OSN1800V, M6100, BWS1600G, OSN3500) and Radio systems by NEC (iPS5000 and iPASOLINK).

Member of the Transmission Futures team, I worked in evaluating cutting edge technologies or prototypes from various vendors [ADVA/ALU/CIENA/JDSU/HUAWEI] and do analyses on their suitability to enter the design phase. I also provided design support on couple of Transmission element management systems with the Lead designer. I provided the server hardware requirements, connectivity diagrams, Firewall port requests and Datacentre front door applications. Key projects included the evaluation of Core Transmission technologies like 100G Transponders in ROADM systems (Ciena/ADVA) and pluggable 100G optics and beyond.
