The purpose is development of statistics for marketing and identifying project trends, among other analysis. The other half of my position involves working with our Business Team Leaders to perform specialized research to examine opportunities and potential growth in new markets. I am able to draw on my knowledge and experience to find and analyze information from various sources to identify local, project, funding, and other trends. This position was created to assist in the development of a research initiative concurrent with the formulation of the academic curriculum for the new civil engineering program. The program centers on the idea of technology-enhanced civil infrastructure. Students learn how technology can be used for decision-making in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of civil assets and related services that benefit the general public.The research program will go beyond the curriculum. From public policy, economic impacts, financing options, K-12 education initiatives, and communication with the general public, everything is of interest. Often negotiated for satisfactory resolutions for all parties; gathered information from various systems to complete claims, enter information onto ledger, and submit to Montage for payment; research customer files and cases, perform audits of various groups of information to look for errors, create solutions for complex problems; perform other data gathering and analysis for special projects as needed.

I dealt daily with subjects of technical and/or confidential nature, maintained files and assembled material for reports, and provided administrative coordination and assistance in areas including project accounting and human resources. I also prepared special reports, gathered and summarized data, and performed general data input. This was a temporary position as a staffing specialist at a local recruiting firm managed by the Mayor of San Marcos.

While interning in the Human Resources Department of the City of Austin, I assisted in the development of the HRD Strategic Communication Plan, including work on branding, mission and vision statements, overall long-term strategic planning and short-term action planning; as well as the implementation of plans through newsletters, organizational magazines, and other mediums. Also, I served on the sub-committee planning strategic communications, working closely with division leaders to create a simple process for getting all of their regular and urgent messages out in a timely and effective manner. While I enjoyed my time at the City very much, it was unfortunately an unpaid opportunity, which limited my time there.
