As a Peer Support Counselor at Yale University, I played a vital intermediary role between clients and therapists, working closely with clinicians to provide comprehensive mental health services to individuals at high risk for psychosis.In this role I collaborated closely with clinicians to provide a comprehensive approach to mental health services for adolescents and young adults with clinically high-risk symptoms (CHR).I helped create personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique profile, and co-led group therapy sessions with a clinician, supporting up to 10 clients every other week. I also held weekly one-on-one sessions with three clients and facilitated sessions between clients and clinicians.To support a well-rounded approach to recovery, I collaborated with therapists to provide an eclectic range of therapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychology education, psychoanalysis, and mindfulness techniques.Additionally, I participated in three different research studies, contributing valuable insights into the field of mental health and psychosis prevention.During my internship I gained a deep appreciation for mental health services and a greater sympathy for those who most need those services. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked at a treatment and research clinic for an emerging field of early psychosis intervention at one of the most well-regarded universities on the planet.Overall, my experience as a Peer Support Counselor has honed my skills in client support, collaboration, and research, and I am eager to apply these skills to future roles.
