I'm currently studying in my first term at Simon Fraser University. Most of my time these days is spent trying to understand the logic that runs through economic thinking. Ultimately though, I chose economics because I'm convinced it has the power to help us understand the practical questions that we face at the individual, organizational, and societal level. It does this by drilling down on the incentives and rules that influence the choices we make and the circumstances in which we make them. Economics is about...How humanity got rich and why is there more wealth in some places than others. Economic experiments, big and small, and what we've learned from them. How game theory can grant us insights into the race to build AGI. The origins of inequality and how it affects social cohesion. The nature of inflation and why it matters. Money as a tool for coordinating people and distributing information. Material wealth and defeating our ancient enemies (hot, cold, hunger, disease, scarcity). At bottom it’s about how we can, or might, cooperate to build a world we want to live in. I believe the best way to predict the future is to have a hand in building it! I'm doing my best to gain skills that I think will be useful by studying math, data/social science, macroeconomics and other topics.
