I am a recent graduate of the Vanderbilt University Biomedical Engineering PhD program. Having recently completed my dissertation work developing a nanocalorimeter platform for point-of-care medical applications, I am excited to find my next phase in my research career. I have hoped to work on innovative biomedical devices since I worked with ALS patients – whose quality of life is drastically improved by a range of medical devices – for my Eagle Scout project. Since then, I have been passionate about developing biomedical devices with the potential to directly impact people’s lives.Following my work with ALS patients, I began working in multiple biomedical fields at UNC, Duke, and Vanderbilt universities. At UNC, I worked in material science creating scaffolds for microfluidic cell cultures and at Duke, I worked in molecular biology and bioinformatics as a research technician in the high-throughput DNA sequencing core. In my most recent research at Vanderbilt, I worked to design a biosensor and develop point-of-care applications. Working in a small lab required me to perform every aspect of the project, from device design and design of experiments to data collection and analysis, all of which strengthened my resourcefulness and ability to execute any research task. My experience in a range of fields gives me confidence that I can learn whatever is necessary to drive forward the project at hand, and my attention to detail helps me do the same. I am energized by asking big questions and working on achievable answers to improve people's lives.
