I’ve been working in scientific publishing since 2004 when I left the lab bench and joined Nature Methods as a manuscript editor before the journal published its first issue. There I worked at the interface of technology and biology, particularly in the areas of imaging, biophysics and computational methods, as I endeavored to identify and bring cutting edge techniques and tools to biological researchers. I’ve always had a strong interest in author service as exemplified by the popular columns I launched and edited at Nature Methods on data visualization (Points of View) and statistics (Points of Significance). As Head of Editorial Services for the Nature journals I moved more fully into an author service roll and spearheaded and delivered on multiple initiatives to improve editorial service. Most recently I made the jump to the non-profit world where, at the American Association for Cancer Research, I can contribute to an organization devoted to serving the research community on a multitude of levels.
