The SpendSmart Payments Company (formerly BillMyParents, Inc.) launched the BillMyParents MasterCard Prepaid Debit Card in early 2010 and the SpendSmart MasterCard Prepaid Debit Card for teens in early 2013. They are instantly trackable, reloadable prepaid debit cards designed to help parents teach teens how to spend smarter. As a leader in the space, the SpendSmart and BillMyParents cards offer a broad set of tools for parents that track, monitor, and teach teens how to effectively manage money without many of the risks associated with credit cards. In my role I translated business needs into actionable development tasks and communicated technical needs to non-technical business staff. Spearheaded the design and implementation of usability tests including project initiation, participant coordination and analytical reports on findings. Specced out technical implementations with core developers based on business goals.Technical accomplishments include:* Increased conversion of sales pages using both multivariate and A/B testing in Google Website Optimizer.* Migrated customer facing websites from Java Server Pages to WordPress and Ruby, improving the speed of release cycles and overall customer experience.* Ensured cross browser compatibility for major versions of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.* Optimized website performance, reducing page load times to less than half of original.* Implemented numerous open source tools and platforms including Modernizr, jQuery, Sinatra, Apache & Nginx, Thin Web Server, Compass, Ubuntu Server, WordPress, and Git.Spearheaded move to Amazon Web Services including:* Moving servers to EC2 by way of Elastic Beanstalk.* Enabling automatic scaling using Elastic Beanstalk.* Writing custom builds scripts to compile and push frontend assets to S3 and CloudFront.* Automating website deployment to a single command run locally.
