I partner with my colleagues in product, engineering, and marketing to make sure we do IP right. These days, that includes a lot of work with AI and data privacy. But whether it’s getting a patent on a new invention, helping to get a deal done, or advising on a new feature, I’m always working to be a better partner to my team.I also created a new product called Relativity Patents. It started as a crazy idea that I had with Ryan Hynes in 2014 to bring concept search to patent text, and wound up becoming a full-fledged product that pushed the limits of what is possible with vector search engines. I led the initial design and market validation process, and defined the MVP for launch. Once we were up and running, I led sales calls, gave demos, and worked with the team to turn our vision into reality.

As Relativity's Intellectual Property Counsel, I implement the company's IP strategy and manage and advise on all IP issues that affect our business. I manage our patent and trademark portfolios, including all aspects of prosecution and litigation, oversee our open source compliance efforts, and manage our trade secrets program. As part of managing Relativity's IP, I monitor the IP developments in our competitive space and issue regular reports to Relativity's leadership. I also regularly negotiate IP-centric transactions, such as software license agreements and commercial partnership agreements.

I worked to lay a foundation for future study of IP management in the arts. By working with and interviewing industry professionals, I was able to analyze royalty rates and create an architecture of legal rights in the music industry. These findings were incorporated into a presentation I gave at the organization's conference in May.
