Evan Olsen Email and Phone Number
I am pursuing a BS/ME in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Aerospace at Rochester Institute of Technology. I am passionate about mastering the intricacies of working in the aerospace field, and I have gained valuable experience and knowledge through my position as a lead engineer in the Liquid Propulsion sub-team within RIT Launch Initiative. On top of this, I gained valuable experience as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at INFICON Inc., where I gained insight on the inner workings of the mechanical engineering industry and attained valuable skills while collaborating with full-time engineers developing a new product line. Our goal as a team has been to develop a bi-propellant pressure-fed liquid rocket engine, using liquid nitrous oxide and isopropyl alcohol. I focused on developing the thrust chamber assembly, and have spent two years teaching myself the intricacies of supersonic flow and design practices used in full-scale supersonic nozzles. On top of this, I have done research on the heat transfer characteristics of a liquid rocket engine and have done extensive analysis to ensure nominal performance of our heat-sink engine. In the future, I strive to develop a regeneratively cooled liquid rocket engine to be mounted to a conceptually similar engine architecture for use in a space shot.During my internship at INFICON Inc., I gained skills in the advanced use of Siemens NX, Teamcenter 10, and Jira softwares for design collaboration and task-management. I gained additional technical skills in DFMA and GD&T practices. I had the opportunity to work on an independently led design project, which taught me lessons in communicating design decisions to stakeholders as well as how to best make revisions from feedback during design reviews. This experience gave me new insight on the industry, and greatly impacted my vision on where I would like to end up in the future.

Thrust Chamber Re @ Rit Liquid PropulsionRit Launch Initiative Aug 2021 - PresentRochester, New York, United StatesRIT Launch Initiative is a performance team within Rochester Institute of Technology, focused on the development of L3 class rockets to fly at IREC taking place at Spaceport America every year. The team introduces students to the basics of hobbyist rocketry, how to design and build your own rockets, and assists with attaining L1, L2, and L3 class rocketry licenses. RIT Liquid Propulsion is a R&D sub-team within RIT Launch Initiative involved in the research and development of efficient low-powered liquid rocket engine technology. I have attained the role as the responsible engineer for the thrust chamber assembly. Our goal as a team has been to develop a 150 lbf bi-propellant pressure-fed liquid rocket engine, using liquid nitrous oxide and isopropyl alcohol. In the future, I strive to develop a regeneratively cooled liquid rocket engine to be mounted to a conceptually similar engine architecture for use in a space shot.In addition, I have gained valuable knowledge on various types of rocket engine cycle architecture, general knowledge on the function and design of rocket injector geometries, propellant tanks, and feed system design. -
Engineering InternMoog Inc. Jun 2024 - Aug 2024Elma, New York, United StatesDeveloped a comprehensive A&T training manual and supported the development of Moog's WNY Operations Training Center by outfitting various highly-utilized and high-rework A&T equipment.Created a SharePoint integrated PowerApp to streamline business process for training course intake requests for the Knowledge Management Team. Involved the use of SharePoint Lists and MS PowerAutomate to store intake requests and automatically send MS Teams updates to stakeholders on new request submission. -
Technical Worker @ Gccis Technical OperationsRochester Institute Of Technology Aug 2021 - May 2024Rochester, New YorkA teamwork-driven work environment focused on providing high-quality technical support to students and staff at Rochester Institute of Technology within the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.I have focused my time in this role educating peers on the responsibilities of the position and how to perform various tasks that the job requires. On top of this, I have become responsible for the inventory management system, which keeps track of the physical inventory within the college.I have held two full-time positions outside of the academic semesters assisting with yearly physical inventory of various equipment within the college, redeploying software to all of the machines, and ensuring the computer labs are prepared for the upcoming semesters. -
Mechanical Engineering Intern - R&DInficon Aug 2023 - Dec 2023Syracuse, New York, United StatesDuring my internship at INFICON Inc., I gained skills in the advanced use of Siemens NX, Teamcenter 10, and Jira softwares for design collaboration and task-management. I gained additional technical skills in DFMA and GD&T practices through collaboration with the systems engineering department, as well as participating in many conversations with the in-house machinist on design decisions.I participated mainly in the Transpector APX project, which was nearing the end of its design phase when I began my position. Throughout the months of my internship, I developed a solution to a dual-pressure TiCl4 Inlet design, using off-the-shelf components rather than custom machined parts to complexity and cost reductions. On top of this, I developed a solution to calibrate the Transpector APX with a high-mass flow of particles by developing an adaptor that fit to a custom turbo molecular pump seal architecture.Additionally, I was given the opportunity to develop low-cost fixture solutions to problems during the assembly of various components on the HAPSITE ER and HAPSITE CDT product lines, collaborating with design and systems engineers to verify functionality.Third, I had the opportunity to work on an independently led design project, which taught me lessons in communicating design decisions to stakeholders as well as how to best make revisions from feedback during design reviews. This experience gave me new insight on the industry, and greatly impacted my vision on where I would like to end up in the future.
