Most of the 87 victims were boys.This project originated in the collaboration between a number of institutions inresponse to the Amsterdam child abuse case in late 2010. In consultation with cityauthorities, the Amsterdam Public Health Service (GGD) took the lead, conductingdiagnostic examinations in cooperation with the Paediatrics Department of theAcademic Medical Centre (AMC) and ensuring that parents and children could receivesupport and treatment from mental health services.Several months after the abuse case came to light, the participating institutions set up aconsortium. It established two working groups: a process evaluation group to monitorthe logistic processes and a research working group to plan a research project on theshort-, medium-, and long-term effects of sexual abuse.
