Retail Markets Branch Advanced the development of compliance strategies, including changes to the AER's reporting framework and audit program, and establishing a work program to identify potential compliance concerns arising from legislative changes and market development. Investigated and made recommendations to the AER Board on whether enforcement action is required to resolve breaches of energy regulations. Managed the issue of infringement notices and engaged with businesses to develop corrective actions and system controls to improve compliance.

Retail Markets Branch Assessed and made recommendations to the AER Board on the approval of applications by businesses looking to enter the energy retail market. This involved review of business models, the systems and financial resources required to trade and meet obligations in a highly regulated market. Regulatory policy development on alternative energy selling model and exempt selling. Promoting competition in the energy industry but ensuring consumer protections are in place.
