As part of my co-op placement with UL, I completed an 8 month internship with Axis Capital, a specialty insurer and reinsurer. My role was as an underwriting intern on the cross-class underwriting team in Dublin, My main roles involved assisting in the underwriting process for both new and renewal business, by processing contracts and endorsements, corresponding with brokers regarding the undertaking of risks, and maintaining records of risks underwritten by Axis. Due to the cross-class nature of my team, I gained exposure to a large range of business lines. Many of the risks I processed were split risks, containing both EEA and Non-EEA exposure, which gave me the opportunity to collaborate with the various underwriting teams in both London and Bermuda.
